Inspired by his journey with autism and overcoming food aversions, Chase Bailey’s The Official Chase ‘N Yur Face Cookbook entices people of all ages to experience familiar dishes done in different ways; and to discover new things about food while celebrating life and ourselves. Combining delightful recipes, uplifting anecdotes, fun facts, delectable photographs, and humorous animations, Chase teaches home-cooks to prepare a wonderful array of dishes under fun chapter titles: Get Up & Go; Feed the Beast; Pick-Me-Ups; Let’s Feast; Life Is Sweet; and Cool Breezes & a Santa Ana Wind. Chase’s cookbook includes omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free recipes.
This cookbook isn’t just full of recipes- but also fun family tidbits & illustrations like above. Since he also has a cooking show on youtube- I like the playful aspect. This keeps kids interested, opens up some dialogue, & gives us adults some unexpected smiles as well. There’s a huge variation of recipes inside- many focusing on healthy recipes & ingredients. Normally I don’t use baking mixes but there actually a few included in here for ease of use. I can see this being a fun gift for kids 7 & above & any adults that might be teaching some kids as well. If you like more whimsy as an adult- this is also a great choice! There’s are some classics in here (like Cola cake!) but also some new, unique ideas to love.
Another nice bonus? Chase is donating a portion of all proceeds from his cookbook to CYDF. This helps his Chase Yur Dreams Foundation to provide resources and opportunities for those on the autism spectrum who are working toward independent living.
