GUMMY VITAMINS
These were absolutely essential for me & I couldn’t have taken supplements without them. The regular pills made me SO sick! I absolutely couldn’t keep them down. Instead of fighting my body, I was more focused on getting my necessary medications in & taking what I could in a chewable form. In the end I found 3 that I liked enough to keep taking- the Vitafusion Prenatal Gummy Vitamins, FiberAdvance Gummies, & the Vitafusion Calcium Gummy Vitamins. Make sure you check with your doctor before you start taking any kind of supplement, especially while pregnant!
AFFORDABLE SECURITY SYSTEM
As soon as I knew I was growing another life, I got a lot more anxious. Especially at night! Granted, we moved during my first trimester… but still. The Ring Wi-Fi Enabled Video Doorbell honestly has made me feel SO much safer. I sleep better. I am able to keep an eye on our front door. & one thing I never hear people talk about is the actually community within the app! You & your neighbors can post videos so we’re able to keep aware of local issues & have it all recorded. I never thought we could afford a security system, let alone one Ryan was able to install himself in less than 10 minutes. I could probably write an entire blog post about the effect this has had on my sanity! We have THIS MODEL which is less than $100 total but for a better camera & range, most of my friends have THIS ONE!
BODY PILLOW
Yes. A big one will take up your whole bed. Yes. It will be worth it. There’s a ton to choose from but I ended up selecting the Leachco Snoogle Original Pregnancy/Maternity Total Body Pillow. I actually used this mostly to nap- I was basically bedridden for months. It provided enough cushion while also providing support. If I could change one thing it would be that it had a zip off cover because that would make it easier to wash but otherwise I’m pretty happy with the choice & it is holding up great!
MONITORING STRESS
We actually bought the Care Touch Fully Automatic Wrist Blood Pressure Cuff Monitor for Ryan originally, but it really came in handy for me as well! It is an at-home way to track your pulse & blood pressure which is especially important throughout pregnancy as it can signify other issues. When I go to my pregnancy group meetings, they actually have us track our measurements ourselves! It is a really affordable, easy way to gain some clarity as well since usually you’re more anxious at appointments.
HAIR TIEBACKS
Think all hair ties are made equal? I’m here to tell you they are NOT. There were mornings I was sick for hours. & then sort of blacked out to take a shower. Then kinda fell into bed to nap. Here’s why invisibobbles are the best- these don’t tangle with dry or wet hair. With invisibobble as a non-soaking, hygienic material- they stretch to hold up my super thick hair then whenever I take them out reform to size. Get something on them? Just wash them! I even use these with hair masks now to deep treat my hair because they rinse clean. The invisibobbles also come in TONS of colors but I really find myself hoarding these CLEAR invisibobbles on my wrist, in my purse, & just about everywhere in the house…just in case. Check out my using them on my beauty instagram here!
HEARTBURN & GAS RELIEF
I had serious heartburn & reflux that required lots of medication changes- but in the meantime I was trying to help it any way I could. I tried LOTS of different kinds of tums but they made me so nauseous. Honestly- I hate them non-pregnant too. The texture of chalk is NOT my friend. Now that it is somewhat under control, I need something occasionally in-between doses & these SoundHealth Extra Strength Heartburn and Gas Relief Chews are by far my favorite. They’re cheaper than the name brand & I honestly think they taste better. I bought both the Mixed Berry & the Assorted Fruit Flavors & even my house guests have commented on how much better they work! Again, be sure to consult with your doctor!
TECH MUST-HAVE
We thought we could live without Alexa in every room of the house. But we were wrong. This is the Echo Dot & as long as you have wifi, you have an awesome piece of tech that comes with a cheap price tag. There are TONS of reasons to use this handy device, but I’m going to stick to why I like it for pregnancy in particular! The main reason is because we buy THESE LIGHT BULBS & I can turn on lights anywhere in our house either through the app or by vocally telling her to do it. With stairs, dogs, & clumsiness- that’s more handy than you might think! We also use the “white noise” function (or rain, or storms, or honestly whatever you want including music) throughout the noise. Between having the Ring which sends alerts to my phone & the white noise of the Echo Dot, I sleep so much more comfortably!
HEAR THAT HEARTBEAT
There’s nothing more comforting than hearing your baby’s heartbeat. There’s nothing more horrific than not being able to find your baby’s heartbeat. & that’s why this product will definitely not be for everyone & I think is a very personal choice. For me, this is our rainbow baby & I felt more comfortable learning as much about my body as I could. I decided to order a Baby Monitor Sound Amplifier & started trying to use it when you can normally start to hear things. I also purchased the Spectra 360 Electrode Gel to go with it.
BATH MUST
One of the saddest moments for me was having the doctor explain that I couldn’t take hot baths. Baths are my me-time. They used to involve wine & now involve juice boxes- but still. Me time. So this handy little MotherMed Baby Bath Thermometer and Floating Bath Toy has been a necessity! Bonus- it’ll come in handy when she arrives as well!
