It has been awhile since I posted about pet items! For those that don’t know- we lost our beauty boxer mix suddenly a few months ago & we were incredibly devastated. Still are. But we also have a new joy- our puppy Cap. Another boxer! So dogs have VERY much been our focus!! With that being said- I’ve been working on this Isle of Dogs feature for quite some time! I have five different things to discuss so keep reading! & see dog pictures of course!…
One Fur All Pet House Candle Mini Sampler Spring Mix Review
At one point- we had quite the collection of candles. & by that I mean..hoarding level. We had them for every season & snapped new ones up on random whims. Then I fell into research & what I found about the chemicals seriously freaked me out. Pretty much all of my candles got removed from the house & I swapped in better options. One Fur All candles happen to be an option & they’re meant for our dog-loving home! Keep reading to see the entire spring sampler & my favorites!…

The Nylabone Dino Dog Toy is a HIT!
When we first adopted Zeus, he had no idea what toys were. We tried just about everything from bouncing balls to furry bunnies that squeaked. He would just stare at us…& sometimes mock us with a cock of his head. He just didn’t get dog toys. This could have possibly been because he didn’t consider himself a dog (that’s the poodle in him of course) but it was likely the fact that he was a street dog. We had to teach him about toys, how to play, what was fun, & it took a very long time.

If you have pets then you probably know the crazy bond people talk about. I personally don’t have kids yet so they really are like my children! Like kids they all have different personalities, needs, & ways of coming into our lives. Today I want to share with you my two girls- both extremely big personalities inside fluffy cat bodies! Keep reading to see what makes my girls special & why we’ve made the change to GOODLIFE™ dry cat food for them!

Gizmo was our first pet ever which is still hard to believe because that was way back in 2008. My husband & I went in to see some rescue animals to see if we bonded. There were two absolutely gorgeous kittens but they were also completely different. One was really wild & practically bouncing off the walls while the other was mellow & loving. I left the choice up to my husband (or else we’d have a house full of animals, seriously) & we brought home our little mellow, lovable bundle of joy.
We named her Gizmo because she reminded me of a gremlin with her very pointed fur on her cheeks. Even now she hasn’t totally grown into it!
Our newest addition is Sawyer- & boy is she lively! After a huge storm here in Nebraska Ryan heard a noise outside. He thought it was one of the kids living on our circle…turns out it was the tiniest kitten I’d ever held. She was trapped in a bush in our front yard & sadly soaking wet, starving, & absolutely terrified. We honestly had no idea what to do because we thought she was wayyyy too young- her eyes were forced open & covered in kitten gunk. After looking through every lost pet site & making some posts of our own it became too late- I named her. Ryan pretty much gave up.
Sawyer is the name of our street so it was an easy choice although we still call her “bush kitty” here & there. Sawyer has pretty much re-energized our entire household with tons of youthful energy & pure insanity. She’s a true spitfire.
When Gizmo was very young she was oddly picky about food. We were a young couple & only tried a few big name foods before we settled on Purina One & have been using it for year. For obvious reasons we opted to use the same when little Sawyer came along. Recently though it was brought to my attention that although I thought I was feeding my cats some of the best—I likely wasn’t. GOODLIFE™ dry food for cats is the only food I’ve gotten my hands on with chicken or salmon as the #1 ingredient, contains fruits & veggies, & doesn’t have artificial flavors or preservatives. On top of that, the recipe doesn’t contain corn, soy, or wheat.

All this time we thought we were on top of keeping them healthy but now we’re back on track! Good nutrition just adds to their grooming, attitudes, & overall health which is something we have to stay on top of. They’ve even included a $1 off GOODLIFE™ brand coupon on their website- perfect so you can give it a shot too! We picked our GOODLIFE™ dry food for cats at our local Walmart. We picked up all three varieties- Indoor, Salmon, & Chicken Recipes. I figured the girls might go for the same type or different ones but somehow (even though they are finicky!) they managed to BOTH like all THREE! Score!

Furrday: The Story of Zeus (Lots of Photos!)
So I’ve decided to make every Friday Furrday where I will include a photo, story, pet review, or something else animal related on the blog. I really hope you guys enjoy that idea because I love our pets & animals in general! Today I’m going to be sharing some photos & backstory on Zeus, our Poodle/Shih Tzu.Most of the photos were taken with my phone & you can find many more on Instagram especially. & with that…I bring you my first Furrday post!
Zeus is the newest member to our crew & I fell for him back in July 2011. My friend Amanda is constantly rescuing dogs but I never expected to find Zeus there. Hubby & I started thinking about getting Cobo a buddy but we were planning to do it after our move here to Nebraska so we would be more settled, wouldn’t have to travel with another animal, etc. We were also thinking about getting another boxer. & a girl. & a puppy. Zeus is none of these things.

The photo a friend took & I sent to Ryan when I asked if I could bring him home!
Amanda & I have been friends for ages & she lives back in Huntington Beach where I’m from. I went back there alone pre-move to hang out & visit…not expecting to bring a dog back with me. Actually, she had a part pit/boxer little girl who was adorable. But she was deifnitely a puppy. & Zeus (formaly known as Ernie) was so incredibly sweet. He immediately sat next to me & snuggled me. I grew up with standard poodles & had honestly never even considered a smaller one.
I fell in love & because Ryan is a giant pushover he okayed me bringing him home without ever seeing him & him being nothing like the dog we had planned on getting. Man I’m blessed with that man sometimes. There was a lot to be done though & we were getting ready to move so we prayed it would work out & be positive for all of us. I named him Zeus while I was still in California because he had such a funny little white beard.
He was a mess. Fleas, worms, ragged, & so matted you couldn’t even see his paw pads. We got him cleaned up & took him into the vet. They told us he was approximately 4 years old & although way underweight was relatively healthy. He needed to be fixed at 4 years old which was a rough process. That poor dog. We had such a time with his marking though it was totally necessary.
He’s still a bit of a picky eater but he is definitely healthy. He is the happiest dog ever & is absolutely content to be my little white shadow. Often while I worn he lays next to me or on my lap. He is just happy to be here. He also loves toys SO much. He never knew how to play before & that took some time. He was super timid & always thought we were angry with him. Now he loves us poking & teasing him & really grins about it.
Cobo is still a bit of a selfish dog but he loves Zeus & really helped coax him out of his shell. Zeus & Giszmo don’t really get along still but that is just as much her as it is him. We decided his birthday is the 4th of July (since that is when I got him) & after a about a year and a half with us he is every ounce a part of our family. It just wouldn’t be our home without our sweet little white dog.
Disclaimer: Zeus was a street dog but that doesn’t mean he belonged there. No dog does. If you’re looking for a new addition to your home, please check your local shelters & animal rescues. Everyone deserves a happy home.
