Ever thought to yourself “why can’t I find anything I like?” while dress shopping? Every year I struggle at some point. Being a curvy girl means a lot of dresses need tons of alterations & plus dresses already normally cost substantially more upfront. It’s frustrating. & exhausting. But…what if there was a brand that hit all the marks for us curvy gals? Keep reading to see what I think of Sydney’s Closet as an option!
Sydney’s Closet is exclusively plus size- ranging from size 14 to 40. While I wish they carried dresses in EVERY size, there are so many brands that don’t cater to larger sizes that I appreciate it as an option! Their slogan is “we size up glamour” & I certainly agree. All four of the dresses I’ll be showing you are more for events but they don’t just hit those categories. They have everything from prom to weddings- something I so wish I’d had as a teenager. Although I fit into straight sizes, I was more mid-size because of my bust & it was nearly impossible to find options that were actually directed at my age range & not substantially more matronly. & now into my 30s, I still have that issue. They actually have options for teenagers through grandmothers- so don’t think they only hit the young market either!
The first dress I’m showing you is arguably the most prom-y & I’m obsessed with the floral vibe. The Sydney’s Closet Floral Print Long Formal Dress is available in sizes 14-40 & is basically a dream come true. Girly, a perfect fit for me at the bust, & bursting with color. PS the fabulous crystal hair comb in my hair that fades between orange & pink is below if you’re curious!
The spaghetti straps are super thin & I could’ve sized down a touch (or altered it) in the bust because (& I can’t believe I’m saying this) but the built in bra & support here actually works! They give me both lift & hold without looking awkward. Although this comes with a pink sash, it can be worn around the neck or tied like a belt which I prefer. The empire waist is super flattering & the pleated bodice gives an extra touch that really adds something more rich to the sweetheart neckline. The chiffon overlay is super lightweight & comfortable while the under layers give tons of beautiful movement.
Want something more wearable? Something you’ll pull for events or dinners time & time again? Well I’ve got it to show you in two different colors because #same when it comes to investing in quality. I want something I can wear to a variety of outings, seasons, & with various accessories. & this Sydney’s Closet Pixie Dust Party Dress is the ultimate. The draped bodice is beyond flattering while the cut itself defines the waist without looking tight. Available in Black, Rose Gold, Navy, or Pewter & because of the fabric, you can pack it up without worrying about wrinkles!
Want something not too matronly but also not juvenile? Available in sizes 14 to 32, I think this hits a wide variety of ages as well. I feel covered but still sparkling & sexy. I can wear this to a church & also out on a date. That’s rare! The neckline lets me wear a supportive, comfortable bra while the fabric itself isn’t too snug or scratchy. Normally sequins all over drive me nuts because they catch on everything!
This is the ultimate dress for New Years, holiday, weddings, & just about any occasion you’re just not quite sure what to wear. & I feel super confident in it! Plus the A-line flare creates a great hourglass balance. The boots above I paired with the rose gold option are from Shoedazzle & I talked about them on my instagram as well!
The last dress I’m showing you is my absolute favorite & makes me feel like a princess. The Chloe Party Dress from Sydney’s Closet is so beyond expectations. Look at that SPARKLE! The rainbow jeweled bust gives off a spectacular aura & when I wore it out to a dinner date, people couldn’t stop complimenting me! This is the shade Royal but it also says it comes in black & red in sizes ranging from 14 to 32. It appears many are out of stock or sold out right now so I hope they add more in soon!
The bust is beyond incredible in the light but it is a deep V, so prepare to wear a real bra (totally doable with the cap-sleeved design) or go braless as long as it is sized appropriately for the true “starlet” vibe on the red carpet. The chiffon skirt is super flowy & swishy to the knees while the waist is flattering as heck. Seen here I’m wearing with shoes from AMI Clubwear– these are the Navy Netted Glittery Chunky Heel Booties (what a name!) & I dig the chunky, acrylic heel. The glittering heels I paired with the black dress are also from them!
Love accessories? I paired some of my favorites from Be Accessoried here! See the hair comb, pin, & clutch above!
