So I’ve decided to make every Friday Furrday where I will include a photo, story, pet review, or something else animal related on the blog. I really hope you guys enjoy that idea because I love our pets & animals in general! Today I’m going to be sharing some photos & backstory on Zeus, our Poodle/Shih Tzu.Most of the photos were taken with my phone & you can find many more on Instagram especially. & with that…I bring you my first Furrday post!
Zeus is the newest member to our crew & I fell for him back in July 2011. My friend Amanda is constantly rescuing dogs but I never expected to find Zeus there. Hubby & I started thinking about getting Cobo a buddy but we were planning to do it after our move here to Nebraska so we would be more settled, wouldn’t have to travel with another animal, etc. We were also thinking about getting another boxer. & a girl. & a puppy. Zeus is none of these things.

The photo a friend took & I sent to Ryan when I asked if I could bring him home!
Amanda & I have been friends for ages & she lives back in Huntington Beach where I’m from. I went back there alone pre-move to hang out & visit…not expecting to bring a dog back with me. Actually, she had a part pit/boxer little girl who was adorable. But she was deifnitely a puppy. & Zeus (formaly known as Ernie) was so incredibly sweet. He immediately sat next to me & snuggled me. I grew up with standard poodles & had honestly never even considered a smaller one.
I fell in love & because Ryan is a giant pushover he okayed me bringing him home without ever seeing him & him being nothing like the dog we had planned on getting. Man I’m blessed with that man sometimes. There was a lot to be done though & we were getting ready to move so we prayed it would work out & be positive for all of us. I named him Zeus while I was still in California because he had such a funny little white beard.
He was a mess. Fleas, worms, ragged, & so matted you couldn’t even see his paw pads. We got him cleaned up & took him into the vet. They told us he was approximately 4 years old & although way underweight was relatively healthy. He needed to be fixed at 4 years old which was a rough process. That poor dog. We had such a time with his marking though it was totally necessary.
He’s still a bit of a picky eater but he is definitely healthy. He is the happiest dog ever & is absolutely content to be my little white shadow. Often while I worn he lays next to me or on my lap. He is just happy to be here. He also loves toys SO much. He never knew how to play before & that took some time. He was super timid & always thought we were angry with him. Now he loves us poking & teasing him & really grins about it.
Cobo is still a bit of a selfish dog but he loves Zeus & really helped coax him out of his shell. Zeus & Giszmo don’t really get along still but that is just as much her as it is him. We decided his birthday is the 4th of July (since that is when I got him) & after a about a year and a half with us he is every ounce a part of our family. It just wouldn’t be our home without our sweet little white dog.
Disclaimer: Zeus was a street dog but that doesn’t mean he belonged there. No dog does. If you’re looking for a new addition to your home, please check your local shelters & animal rescues. Everyone deserves a happy home.
