Looking for a cookbook that’ll take you through the year? That’s exactly what Nourishing Meals: 365 Whole Foods, Allergy-Free Recipes for Healing Your Family One Meal at a Time is designed for! What drew me to this concept actually wasn’t the “365” but the idea that these recipes are all allergy-free aka free of gluten, soy, eggs, dairy, & refined sugar. I was hoping this might give me more inspiration when cooking for large groups!
It can be daunting to live a whole foods lifestyle in today’s busy world—even more so to prepare plant-rich, allergen-free meals that’ll get the whole family around the table. Popular blogger Ali Segersten and functional medicine expert Tom Malttere are a team devoted to teaching their children—and readers—the importance of living a whole foods lifestyle. Nourishing Meals makes it easy and fun with dishes that burst with flavor, such as their Cherry Pecan Salad, Butternut Squash and Pinto Bean Enchiladas, Chipotle-Lime Roasted Chicken, and Banana Coconut Cream Pie.
So was it a hit? For me personally- it is just okay. As some of you probably know thanks to snapchat & instagram- I’ve transitioned to low carb & high protein. Although it is recommended for vegan, vegetarian, seafood, & meat-eaters it also includes a lot of grains & sugar. I was hoping for something more “whole food” based. However- for allergy recipes this is an excellent compilation! I did really enjoy the layout, pairing of flavors, & have written down some ideas of recipes to manipulate to fit my dietary needs.
