Romance is so important- whether you’re newlyweds or have been married for what feels like forever. But romance isn’t everything if there isn’t fun. Getting out of your comfort zone & trying something new can be incredibly refreshing! Check out my 10+ ideas for fun dates on any budget!
Laser Tag
This may sound like it is only for kids- but you’d be wrong! It is physical, competitive, & a ton of fun! The nice thing is you can often play against complete strangers & be a team. Working together not your thing? Go all out & see who ends up on top!
Mini Golf
If you live somewhere with beautiful weather- mini golf can be a blast! If not…you might be surprised to learn there are a lot of places with indoor options! Locally we have some with blacklights & even themes! It isn’t a heavy physical activity & really lets your set the pace so you can chat.
Take a Class
Learning something new puts you both on a level playing field. Sometimes teaching someone else a hobby we’re already invested in can be frustrating- but starting from scratch together can be a lot of fun! Most people try cooking classes but the imgaination is the limit! Think about painting, woodworking, & even flying lessons!
Pogo / City Pass
Live in a larger city or visit one often? Then you can probably snag a good deal! Personally- we have a POGO Pass here in Vegas which gives you a discount or free trips to fun things to do around town. We can actually go bowling for free 4 times a month! Lots of cities have them so it is a great idea to give it a look! Also be sure to check out Groupon because they post some awesome deals as well!
If you live in/visit Las Vegas, Austin/Waco, Dallas/Ft.Worth, Phoenix, San Antonio, or Tucan- I actually have a code for 60% off passes! Be sure to check out POGO HERE but use the code stephlouiseatb or homeinhighheels for 60% off your purchase!
Arcade Night
Sometimes the best way to relax & have fun is to go back in time. Was there anything more fun than going to the arcade? There’s something really exciting about all the lights & bells! Plus it lets you compete a bit which is great for ongoing banter!
Feed Yourselves
Make a new kind of food with all hands on deck like sushi, meat & cheese platters, or DIY fondue night! Making something interactive starts with the shopping & ends with eating which is always a good time. Even if it isn’t picture-perfect it’ll be fun & taste good!
Get Massages
If you want to splurge a bit together- focus on the relaxation of massage. There are tons of options- some even come to your house! Talk to your spouse about what they think they’d enjoy then look up places together.
Go Bowling
Another classic activity! Many of this think of this as “young dating” & that is part of the fun. Again- you can be competitive which creates banter & additional conversation.
Get Learning
Not everyone is into museums- but there might still be something local to check out. Think about taking a boat ride to go whale watching, a kayaking class, or even a brewery tour. Then practice together!
Staycation
A personal favorite idea is the staycation! Get out into your local or nearest large city & be a tourist for a day. We recently did this here in Vegas by booking a hotel room on the busiest street & walking it like every other tourist. We hit the shows & walked through local attractions. It was a lot of fun & something new for both of us! If you don’t live in a large city- think about a daytrip!
I once wrote a piece on another site about how hard it was on our marriage early on when we lost a baby. We married young & I honestly didn’t know if I could recover. But I did & more importantly, so did we. Whether you already have a family or you’re trying to start one together- life is stressful. If you’re trying to conceive & have looked up all of the funny positions to the strange recipes….you might be interested in checking out Stork OTC.
