I don’t bake very often during the warmer months- it is just too hot here. The news just informed me our triple digit heat is supposed to finally come to an end so I’m going to be in the autumn spirit! Food52 is one of my favorite sites for food ever so when they released some new cookbooks I was excited to check them out! Baking by Food52 is my first choice since I’ve been missing it- keep reading to see what I think!
With this book, curated by the editors of Food52, you can have homemade treats far superior to the store-bought variety, even when it feels like you’re too busy to turn on the oven. From Brown Butter Cupcake Brownies to “Cuppa Cuppa Sticka” Peach and Blueberry Cobbler, these sixty reliable, easy-to-execute recipes won’t have you hunting down special equipment and hard-to-find ingredients or leave you with a kitchen covered in flour and a skink piled high with bowls. They’re not ordinary or ho-hum, either: ingredients you’ve baked with before (and some you haven’t – like black sesame, coconut oil, and lavender) come together to create new favorites like Baked Cardamom French Toast and Olive Oil and Sesame Crackers. Filled with generations’ worth of kitchen wisdom, beautiful photography, and tips you’ll return to, Baking is the new go-to collection for anyone who wants to whip up something sweet every day.
So what makes this little gem worthwhile? This cookbook contains 60 recipes but they’re all awesome starting points if you’re someone like me as well. Even more of a reason is the stunning photography! Trust me when I say you shouldn’t flip through this book hungry! While some recipes are expected like pound cake & shortbread cookies, these all have sensational twists that will completely switch things up in a great way. For instance, instead of just pumpkin pie they have pumpkin pie crumble. Looking for oatmeal crisp? This recipe is for Almond Butter Oatmeal Crisp. & don’t even get me started on the idea of Featherweight Blueberry Scones or Basil Onion Cornbread! These “basics” with creative twists will leave you wanting (& baking) so much more!
