There are two types of people- those who arrive as the park opens & those who arrive whenever. I arrive bright & early, ready to soak up the fun & everything the park has to offer. Almost every time- no matter the distance or opening time. But things are different now that I’m a mom. & my schedule is all about Eloise. So Ryan & I were very excited & almost bewildered to have a whole day date together…just us…at Wet’n’Wild here in Las Vegas….
Romancing Him with Fajitas for a Nacho Daddy Date Night
Nothing says date night more to my man than great food. & he’s a sucker for fajitas. Actually- we both are. Big time. I’m one of those people who likes lots of options. I order lots of dips & sauces. I like all of the salsas at my disposal. & if there is some kind of sampler- that’s my first choice. Fajitas are basically an acceptable dinner sampler with the added build-your-own fun. & I’m here for it. Keep reading to check out our date night at Nacho Daddy & what Ryan looks like mocking me……
Kill Boredom with a Movie Night at Home + Quick International Giveaway!
It has been a rough couple of months. Moving & then unpacking has been monotonous & just plain making me bonkers. It is the same thing day after day. & did I mention expensive? Because I definitely should have. So “fun” has needed to be on the cheap. Enter….Movie Date Night….
Fondue Date Night- Beer Cheese Fondue Crockpot Style!
I decided one night that I wanted to have fondue but there just isn’t all that many options out here. Ryan grew up eating fondue at home but it was the oil kind- I thought cheese sounded better! I read a ton of recipes but decided on a few simple ones pieced together. We also had some amazing drinks because we’re grownups & no one can tell us what to do, right?
I pretty much followed this recipe here on Spoonful but using the option of beer. I also rubbed the inside of the crock pot with a raw garlic glove instead of adding it directly to the slowcooker. If you want something super creamy don’t do what I did by using up a few small bits of cheese since they didn’t melt down as well. Still tasted amazing though- like beer cheese soup!
To dip in our awesome cheese I displayed a bunch of options:
- crusty French bread
- sausage that had been charred a bit for flavor
- pear & apple
- roasted asparagus
- roasted green beans
Obviously you can use about anything you have that goes with cheese- these items just happened to be readily available. There’s just something so fun about fondue! I think it is because it is a real activity & creates a bit of conversation. The prep looks like a lot but it didn’t really take much time. If you use raw veggies then it practically preps itself.
What do you do for date nights? What’s your favorite fondue recipe? Any tips for chocolate fondue?
Gifts: Date Night Jar (Eliminates the “Where Should We Go?” Issue!)
So I thought I’d show you my little date night gift I gave my hubby on Valentine’s Day. We constantly have the same argument on date nights…”Where do we go? I don’t know, where do you wanna go? I don’t care! Just pick somewhere! I DON”T CARE!” Does anyone else have this happen? It is so time consuming that we don’t end up doing anything fun!
I stumbled upon this idea from Life in the Green House on my Pinterest & got really excited. She had some really cute ideas for at-home date nights, date nights that contained planning, etc. Instead of using this same method I decided to tackle our particular problem…where to eat!

Because we’re stationed here we don’t know many of the restaurants outside of this particular city. We rarely drive into Omaha & even when we do the only places we note are chains. So how do we branch out? I love trying new places & hubby does now too so I knew just what to do! I researched on Yelp & read specifics! Lots of them.
In the end I color coded the tops of the sticks by region so if we were going to shop elsewhere we wouldn’t have to keep digging to find a stick for a restaurant there. I placed a card inside then wrote the city name in corresponding shades with the sticks. I put the restaurant name down on each stick confident that we’d be interested in going without eating at the same place all the time! This is perfect for us & exactly what we needed! When we’re trying to think of where to go we don’t want to take the time to research so now we just pull a stick out!
Life in the Green House actually has come up with some new ideas for Sticks in a Jar & I’m really excited to make some more. In fact…I already have a few in mind! What do you think of this idea? What kind of Stick in a Jar ideas would you create?
